valleys. 54 degrees now in san francisco. 57 in san jose. 51 in santa rosa. high pressure now giving way to that trough that's sitting along the coastline that's ushered in the sea breeze and cooler temperatures for today. these numbers taking a nosedive from yesterday's highs. in fact, yesterday we had some 70s and some 80s. today, a good 5 to 15 degrees cooler outside. and by tomorrow, even cooler and maybe some rain too. we'll talk more about that in a few minutes. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> reporter: tomorrow morning could be slick. out the door right now dry and quiet. i think people are still recovering after last night's big election. everything so far, so good up the nimitz. this is a live look in the east bay. northbound traffic 15 minutes between 238 and the maze. to the south bay now these are live drive time sensors you can see traffic moving at the limit 280 guadalupe parkway and 101 and back towards the east bay a quick look through danville southbound 680 moving fine through the san ramon valley. that's traffic. back to you guys. >> thank you. >>> california
of the bridges for quite a while. this is san jose. we sent photographers out, this is one o of the clear spots. let's go to the map. here's that fog we've been talking about, this is across the golden gate bridge, a little bit slow right now on the approach between 580 and the toll plaza. you can see the headlights there. this is back to work after a while for some folks. if you're heading toward ffo, this is what it looks like on 101. past campbell, it looks okay as far as accidents, no major road work to slow you down. 280 is pretty quiet as well. interstate 80, they have issued a dense fog advisory for the carcinas bridge. particularly when you get a little bit further north heading toward vacaville, davis, cp noticed it's especially thick in spots there. milpitas, 880, coming around that bend, so far so good out toward san jose. that is a check of the time saver traffic. >>> the numbers this morning, we're starting out at least a little bit warmer than we have lately because with the low clouds acts as a blanket, in the low 50s in oakland, and in the headlines we'll be looking at the fog t
. a small memorial is there for the san jose rest denied 22- year-old rory park petty ford. police have one person this custody. here's his picture. 26-year-old jonathan wilbanks was arrested on friday night. he was caught after a series of robberies, a police chase, shooting and carjacking attempt that left a man dead. here's a map that shows the path of this violent crime spree. wilbanks's alleged acome police got away but together they committed four robberies on friday at a little caesar's pizza on story road, gas station on east capital, a jack- in-the-box on curtner avenue and the spa on bird avenue. around 9:00 the pair tried to carjack 22-year-old rory in the seven eleven parking lot and shot him dead. police then spotted the car on highway 101 near interstate 280 and chased it through town. the suspects got out and opened fire on the officers. about >> about 9:00 i heard gunshots. >> saw the victim up in the front and in shock after finding out his father -- that his son had been shot in front of seven learn. >> reporter: police returned fire and hit wilbanks. one officer was treat
shopper told me she and her family drove up from san jose just after thanksgiving dinner. >> it's all about the rush, you know? got to be here for the rush. got to get in with the crowd. it's really fun. so it's part of like culture, i guess, of thanksgiving. >> these outlets opened just two weeks ago. since then, it's been inundated with shoppers and cars. there's been a big traffic backup along the roadways and it doesn't look like it's going to ease up anytime soon. back out live here, you would forget that it's 5:00 in the morning because there are so many people just sort of walking around the stores here. you think that, no, they would be asleep. no, they are out here trying again to cash in on the deals and it's black friday but again, what's black friday? the stores opened at 10:00 last night. so i guess they are wasting no time. live in livermore, back to you guys. >> thank you. >>> a lot of best buy stores opened at midnight as you probably heard including one in san jose, santana row. >> whoo! >> and away they go. many people camped out for days to be among the first throug
this morning around the bay area but it's shifted a bit further to the south into san jose staying dry for most of halloween but now they are seeing the rain falling there. you can see those showers dragging on through. nothing really heavy, just some light rain coming through and beginning to fall apart. now, as we head through the day today, this is going to sag further south and move east so heading out of town into san jose, into milpitas, you're seeing more light early on this morning. roads are slick. so be careful. behind this we have some clearing on the back side. in fact, by the afternoon, probably turning to partly cloudy skies and just a slight chance of a few showers. overlooking san francisco now, still looking good. beautiful skies orange lights and temperatures in the 50s and 60s this afternoon maybe low 70s in the warmest spots but we are thinking 80s in the not too distant future. we'll tell you when coming up. right now let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> we can barely see the dublin interchange roads. westbound 580 in the commute direction, you can see some headlights.
s now, mid-30s in santa rosa, 46 degrees in san jose, 45 in san francisco. average temperatures usually in the 60s and low 70s. by the afternoon as much as 13 degrees below average in san jose. about 56 degrees is all we are going to get to in san francisco. get out the cold weather clothes, elizabeth. >> i know. looks cold. all right. thanks, lawrence. outside right now, we haven't seen anything too unusual. no huge accidents. we did have one earlier traffic alert actually in this area through milpitas. it is now clear. all lanes are open. but obviously, you can see from our live traffic cameras and from lawrence's doppler radar that everything is still a little slick out there. so this is a live look across the golden gate. looks like they have reopened some more southbound 101 lanes in the commute direction. we also have some bart delays, 10 to 15 minutes on the richmond line in all directions. all other bart lines are on time. every other form. mass transit good to go. and, of course, grab your chains. we have chain requirements this morning on every major road up to the sie
under investigation. >>> 5:04 now. san jose is facing a serious safety problem, a shortage of officers patrolling their streets. facing lower wages and benefits, for san jose officers are resigning. there are now less than 1,000 officers in the department available for full duty. 583 are patrolling the streets in a city of nearly a million people. >> there is no wiggle room. anytime you move personnel, you'll be robbing peter to pay paul. that's the reality that we live in. >> mayor reed says 44 men and women are going through the academy right now. those officers should be ready to hit streets of san jose next june. >>> closing arguments set in contra costa county this morning in the case of a man who killed his ex-girlfriend and another man at the richmond/san rafael bridge toll plaza. this is the penalty phase in the trial of nathan burris who was convicted of the two murders last week. he could face the death penalty. >>> two women home alone fought off an armed prowler. the suspect may have stab wounds in the chest. according to police he broke that a san rafael apartment tuesday
for a deadly crime spree in san jose. the teenager could go to court today. he is accused along with 26- year-old jonathan wilbanks of a series of crimes that happened earlier this month. police say the two robbed four businesses, killed a man during a carjacking attempt, and had a shootout with police 10 days ago. >>> two would-be robbers had a surprise when they went into a jewelry store in east san jose and started shooting. the woman behind the counter apparently had a gun too. she fired back. no one was hit by any of the gunfire near king and story roads. but the two suspects ran out, sped away in a black suv without any stolen jewelry. >>> a san francisco sheriff's deputy pleaded not guilty to bank robbery charges. prosecutors say fingerprints and surveillance video linked 36-year-old the man to a holdup of a bank of america. he is free on bail. >>> it's 5:04. let's check the weather. apparently we need to get the galoshes out. >> armageddon is coming! >> maybe the canoes, too. today looks okay but it's tomorrow and thursday and friday and sat

could see a record of 81, 81 can also be a record in san jose. the other temperatures will fall short, still a beautiful day outside, elizabeth. >> not too bad. here's a live look at the golden gate bridge where everything is flowing nicely if your commute takes you out of marin towards san francisco you can see a few cars right now making their way towards doyle drive. you will find some areas of overnight roadwork northbound 101 from the waldo turn towards sir francis drake. the other bridges here's a live look up the incline section of the bay bridge up the upper deck. no metering lights so you can see green on the sensors westbound and eastbound 80 and looks like they just reopened the ramp from northbound 280 to southbound 101. it was scheduled to wrap up around 5:00 so that's great news going into and out of san francisco. no longer any delays. we have a bit of a delay not much but all lanes blocked in eastbound 4 at loveridge. they are using those detours to get by. this is ongoing roadwork they do across that stretch. the good news in the commute direction westbound through an

in san jose will be tried as an adult. the boy adonis muldrow will be in a courtroom this afternoon. the 15-year-old facing 8 felony counts including murder and attempted murder of a peace officer. police say he and 26-year-old jonathan wilbanks robbed a string of san jose businesses on november 16th killing this man, rory parkpettiford. an officer was also injured. >>> two men are behind bars after a violent road rage incident that was all caught on video. oakland police say the ordeal began monday when a couple noticed a car driving erratically and started shooting video with their cell phone. police say the men in that car realized they were being recorded and pulled out guns pointing them at the couple while at a stop light. a while later the men caught up with the couple again and one of them made his way inside the couple's car demanding the video. >> there husband was able to push the suspect out of the car and tells his wife hit the gas get out of here. >> police say that man fired at the couple's car. no one was hit. and with that video, officers were able to identify the s

at the limit right now on 101 through san jose. here's a live sneak peek near the trimble exit. coming up a check of mass transit. >> good morning, everyone. it's thursday, november 8. i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everybody. i'm frank mallicoat. it is 5:00 on the nose now. we begin with some breaking news. a bay area hotel with no vacancy is now completely empty because of a hazmat situation. >> cbs 5's anne makovec joins us from burlingame where hundreds of guest, i would imagine, anne, they are just waiting to go back to sleep. >> reporter: they were woken up in the middle of the night by an alarm, a lot of them have spent hours in their cars here in the parking lot. i'm at the embassy suites in burlingame on anza boulevard. you can see emergency personnel still here on scene. now, this hotel has been cleared. but they are starting the process of getting people back into their rooms. they are prioritizing people with early-morning flights. the hotel is right by the airport. so several people are trying get out of town. here's how it started according to some of the officials on scene. th
and you can see on doppler radar lots of yellow out there. san jose it is seeing some showers right now, some heavier rain earlier. that's soon going to be picking up. you can see north in sunnyvale that we have some stronger storms that will be sliding in your direction. so if you are heading out be careful. we have the rain and some pockets of heavy rainfall into oakland, stretching across the bay into south san francisco. a little further to the north we can see the back side of the storm system. we mentioned the possibility of flooding in petaluma. they are seeing very heavy downpours right now. expecting some flooding along the penngrove stream there. so that's expected to rise as more of that water comes down the hill so some very stormy weather there. mill valley a strong cell headed there. flash flood watches up for much of the bay area. they have been extended for the weekend. we have a lot more rain to come. we'll have more on that coming up in just a few minutes. >> if you can leave later for your morning commute, gosh, it is just a mess in a lot of spots all across the bay a
